Veteran Health Administration
One organization that uses a wayfinding system to help people access health care facilities is the Veteran Health Administration (VHA). The VHA operates the largest integrated healthcare system in the United States, with over 1,700 hospitals, clinics, and other care sites. One of the challenges the VHA faces is providing high-quality care to a geographically dispersed population. To address this challenge, the VHA created a Wayfinding Project Team to develop a wayfinding system that would help Veterans find their way to VHA facilities. The team developed a set of wayfinding standards and guidelines used by VHA facility designers and planners. The standards and guidelines cover everything from sign design and placement to website design and navigation.
