Number of People with Increased Access to Healthy Destinations

The number of people with increased access to a healthy destination indicates how easily individuals may get transportation services. Since transportation links people’s points of origin to their destinations, this metric shows the level at which people have access to public transportation to obtain goods, food, education, health services (such as non-emergency, mental health care, and other health appointments), and participate in social activities.1

This indicator helps determine the effectiveness of the following objectives

  • Less Contamination
  • Less Emissions
  • Less Traffic Noise
  • Connectivity and Inclusion
  • Healthy Destinations
  • Less Traffic Violence
  • Active Transportation
  • Green Space

Data Collection

The National Center for Health Statistics provides data on the number of individuals with access to healthcare. The data are collected through surveys, publications, or questionnaires.2

Examples

Public Transport Authority (PTA)

The Public Transport Authority (PTA) is the organization responsible for measuring the number of people with easy access to public transport to ensure a safe and secure trip to their destinations. The PTA uses a variety of methods to collect data on accessibility, including surveys and focus groups. This data is then used to develop plans and strategies to improve accessibility for all users of public transport. The PTA is committed to making public transport accessible for all users, regardless of their ability or disability. To achieve this goal, the PTA works closely with a range of stakeholders, including transport operators, local authorities, and disability organizations. By working together, the PTA can ensure that everyone has equitable access to public transport.
