Program Overview
The Center for Advancing Research in Transportation Emissions, Energy, and Health (CARTEEH) is a University Transportation Center funded by the US Department of Transportation. The CARTEEH Summer Internship Program provides opportunities for outstanding undergraduate students to engage in research related to transportation emissions, air quality and human health. Participants will work on a research project with a research mentor at the Texas A&M Transportation Institute in College Station, Texas. The program covers topics such as:
- Transportation emissions and/or air quality modeling
- Assessment of exposures and health impacts
- Policy and decision making
- Land-use and urban planning
Funding
Interns will be paid $6,000 in support for the ten-week period, in addition to housing and a $1700 food allowance. (Note: wages and food allowance are taxable income.)
Applicant Eligibility
1) Must have an interest in the area of transportation, air quality, and health and a desire to actively participate in research.
2) Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
3) Must have completed junior year (at least 90 hours) by the end of Spring 2018.
4) Must be on track to graduate no sooner than December 2018.
Participant Requirements and Expectations
1) Students selected for the research internship may not be enrolled in university courses during the entire 10-week summer period.
2) Attendance at internship-related events, including the final poster session, is mandatory.
3) Students are expected to commit at least 40 hours/week, which includes:
- Working research hours as determined by the student’s research mentor
- Mandatory internship activity
4) Requirements for completion of program are:
- Research plan
- Abstract
- Progress report
- Final paper
- Poster presentation
