Sustainability Indicator Management & Analysis Platform (SIMAP)

SIMAP® is a carbon and nitrogen-accounting platform that can track, analyze, and improve campus-wide sustainability. The algorithms, based on work supporting campus inventories with the Campus Carbon Calculator, Carbon MAP and Nitrogen Footprint Tool, will help in: creating a baseline, benchmark performance, creating reports, setting goals, and analyzing progress year over year.

Estimation Technique

The estimation technique of SIMAP is based on the use of environmental indicators. Indicators are numerical values that can be used to compare the performance of different environmental systems or practices. To be useful, indicators must be able to measure a variety of environmental factors, such as air and water quality, waste management, and energy use. SIMAP provides users with a range of options for comparing environmental indicators. The platform includes a database of over 1,000 indicators from around the world, which can be searched by keyword or category. Users can also create their own customized indicator sets. Once an indicator set has been selected, SIMAP allows users to compare the performance of the indicators over time. This comparison can be done using a variety of methods, such as line graphs, bar charts, and scatter plots. SIMAP also provides users with the ability to download the data used in the comparisons, so that it can be further analyzed offline.
