The Cognitive Assessment System for Adults (CASA)

The Cognitive Assessment System for Adults (CASA) is a tool used to assess the cognitive capacities of older adults. The tool is a multi-domain cognitive instrument that evaluates executive functions, orientation, abstraction, language, visual recognition, visual recall, attention, and visuospatial processing in adult and older adult populations. This evaluation may be a crucial tool in determining how many older adults are cognitively capable and whether they have access to public transportation.

This tool will help achieve the goal of the following objectives

  • Less Contamination
  • Less Emissions
  • Less Traffic Noise
  • Connectivity and Inclusion
  • Healthy Destinations
  • Less Traffic Violence
  • Active Transportation
  • Green Space

Estimation Technique

The tool features 21 items and a 0 to the 50-point scoring range. The cognitive difficulty increases with range. The estimation technique now entails using the instrument to evaluate the cognitive capacities of older people who use the transportation system. This estimation can be performed before and following a transportation strategy’s implemenation. The results reveal the estimates of older people who have to utilize public transportation, and even determines whether they have access to health care and other destinations.
