The Social Readjustment Rating Scale (SRRS)

Stress level is measured using a variety of scales. Some measures (such as self-report methods, questionnaires, etc.) rely on people reporting their own levels of stress, whereas other measures take a more objective stance. An important tool used is the Social Readjustment Rating Scale (SRRS) which measures self-reported stress levels. The participants are asked to list every significant event that occurred in their lives over the previous 12 months on this scale. To create a final Life Change Unit (LCU) Score, participants must add the scores of these life events together.

This tool will help achieve the goal of the following objectives

  • Less Contamination
  • Less Emissions
  • Less Traffic Noise
  • Connectivity and Inclusion
  • Healthy Destinations
  • Less Traffic Violence
  • Active Transportation
  • Green Space

Estimation Technique

The estimation is made by recording the stress levels of commuters who use active modes, as well as those who use public transportation or carpooling using the SRRS tool. The lower stress levels suggest that the chosen mode of transportation is less demanding. This further reveals the benefits of the strategy to commuters who choose active transportation methods like walking and cycling over other forms of transportation.
